SLS Printing Extraordinarily Complex Rubik's Cube Model

As we known, 3D printing technology is not very sensitive to complex model, but the more complex and intricate the model, the higher the requirements for the accuracy and detail expression of the printing device. Today, we are challenging to print a high-difficulty Rubik's cube.


This Rubik's cube consists of 27 components which feature complex surface texture, fine structural characteristics, complex hollow/lattice structural features, and an integrated printing structure.

The 27 small blocks with different characteristics. Each small block has different structural characteristics and requires consistent printing results with the design clearance to achieve smooth rotation and smooth assembly, which tests the overall printing accuracy and consistency of the printing device, while also examining its printing capabilities in different aspects.


The core block requires good mechanical strength and a smooth and wear-resistant surface after printing to meet the requirements of smooth rotation and long-term use. The docking block requires the same printing strength and surface effect while also reflecting the printing capabilities of the 3D printer for small concave and convex textures.


The docking block also requires the printing equipment to be able to print the surface's concave and convex texture. The corner block requires the device to have fine scanning and control capabilities when printing various small hollows and lattice structures and whether small clearances can be thoroughly cleaned during powder cleaning.


The edge block is mainly divided into assembly structure integral molding and fine structure printing, which also tests the mechanical strength and durability of the material after printing.

For this relatively complex Rubik's cube, we used the highly versatile and comprehensive performance Precimid1172Pro BLK black (PA12) material with good surface effect, stable color, wear resistance and durability, and a low ratio of new powder down to 20%, which is universal and cost-effective. The printing equipment is TPM3D P360, with a layer thickness of 0.1mm.

After powder cleaning and sandblasting treatment, the printing effect of each small block was perfectly presented.All small blocks can be easily assembled and achieve good rotation.The chemical vapor smoothing treatment can not only make the surface more smooth and bright, but also make the rotates more smoothly with waterproof and durable features.
